Coastal Energy makes gas discovery in Thailand

Coastal Energy Company has identified a vertical gas column of 113m at the Dong Mun 3 onshore gas well on Block L27/43 in Thailand.
The sidetrack drilled to a depth of 2,539m encountered a vertical gas column of 113m with porosity of 6% tested for 24 hours.
It produced at an average rate of 15 mmcfd with flowing pressure of 1,950 psi through a 32/64" choke.
Coastal Energy president and CEO Randy Bartley said that the test results of the Dong Mun 3 sidetrack are extremely encouraging.
"The drilling results combined with the new 3D seismic strongly indicate that this gas structure has an areal extent of over 5,000 acres, giving this resource tremendous potential," added Bartley.
Coastal holds a 36.1% interest in APICO, the joint venture that operates the L27/43 concession.
Coastal Energy stated it has also drilled two additional producing wells and a water injection well at Bua Ban North offshore Thailand.
One of the producing wells was drilled horizontally, has been tied in and the company has two more wells to bring online at Bua Ban North.
Current offshore production is averaging 26,000 bopd, bringing total company production to 28,000 boepd.

Daytona 500: Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth win qualifying races
The Daytona 500 is underway and?defending NASCAR champion?Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth?won the first two races to be lined up together at the?Daytona?International Speedway.
Roush Fenway Racing will have three cars at the front of the season-opening Daytona?500.
Skip to next paragraphMatt Kenseth won the second of the twin qualifying races Thursday with a bold pass of teammate Greg Biffle. The victory gave Kenseth a spot on the second row for Sunday's race ? right behind teammates Carl Edwards and Biffle.
Tony Stewart, the defending NASCAR champion, won the first race and will line up next to Kenseth at?DaytonaInternational Speedway.
Biffle was leading headed into the final lap, but he tried to block Kenseth, who dived to the inside and used a push from Jimmie Johnson to take the lead.
"Well, we were going so much faster that we were going to go by him regardless," Kenseth said. "That was his only hope, is to try to get up the track, try to line my front bumper up where I had to push him. The problem was, I was going too fast. Even if I wanted to slow down, which I didn't want to on the last lap, I couldn't have."
Robby Gordon and Michael McDowell earned the two spots up for grabs in the first race, while Joe Nemechek and Dave Blaney each raced their way into the?500?in the second qualifying race.
Gordon said after he'd be willing to sell his seat to two-time?Daytona?500?winner Michael Waltrip, who failed to qualify for the race after crashing as he tried to return to the track surface after a late pit stop. The accident means it will be the first time since 1972 neither Darrell Waltrip or Michael Waltrip will be in NASCAR's biggest race of the season.
"I just went the wrong way and lost the car," said a dejected Waltrip. "I feel like I let everybody down. I don't know what to say. It's just sad."
The two qualifying races could not have been more different, and both were far calmer than Saturday's exhibition?Daytona?500. That race was the first display of new rules NASCAR implemented to break up the two-car tandem racing that fans vehemently opposed.

Greg Voakes: The Rise of Couponing in Small Business
This week, couponing and consumer savings site Coupons.org launched an infographic called "The Coupon's Comeback." The graphic argues that couponing, a phenomenon largely dormant for the last 20 years, has found a resurrection in the form of online media, social couponing sites, and more traditional dashboard sites. "The Coupon's Comeback" explores the rise in coupon offers and redemption since pre-recession times, the surprising demographics of coupon use, and the evolution of online couponing.
According to the graphic, Americans have been engaged in a "long-term affair with the coupon," which is not entirely surprising, since the coupon has been around for over 100 years. Recently however, there has been a huge surge in coupon use and as a result, spending and savings are up. More and more small businesses are offering coupons, and the number of online coupons increased 360 percent since 2009. As more retailers get online, that number will continue to multiply. By 2014, the number of mobile coupon users is projected to grow a staggering thirteen-fold.
Despite this growth in online couponing, only 1.5 percent of all redeemed coupons are accounted for by Internet coupon codes and promotional codes. Furthermore, according to the infographic, the most recent data shows that in 2010 Americans only redeemed 0.6 percent of the total possible savings offered with coupons. Seemingly, the issue is not the number of coupons offered, but how customers are accessing these deals.
With an increasing number of small businesses offering deals, it can be wearisome to actually find them. Prior to the most recent Internet coupon boom, the fastest way to shop and save was by scouring the Sunday pages for coupons prior to purchasing; a time-consuming process often not worth the amounts saved. Moreover, many of the largest companies with far-reaching marketing arms don't offer the best deals, even though they can be ubiquitous. How cancer cells change once they spread to distant organs
ScienceDaily (Feb. 22, 2012) ? Oncologists have known that in order for cancer cells to spread, they must transform themselves so they can detach from a tumor and spread to a distant organ. Now, scientists at Weill Cornell Medical College have revealed critical steps in what happens next -- how these cells reverse the process, morphing back into classical cancer that can now grow into a new tumor.
Their findings, now published online and in a upcoming issue of Cancer Research and funded through a National Cancer Institute grant to the Cornell Center on the Microenvironment and Metastasis and the Neuberger Berman Foundation, show that a single protein, versican, is key to this process in breast cancer, the tumor they studied. When researchers stopped versican from functioning in mice, breast cancer could not "seed" themselves into the lungs and form secondary tumors.
"Our findings both help us understand how breast cancer metastasizes to the lungs and ways to possibly prevent that deadly spread," says the study's senior investigator, Dr. Vivek Mittal, an associate professor of cell and developmental biology in cardiothoracic surgery and director of the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medical College.
"These are exciting insights into a poorly investigated area," Dr. Mittal says. "There are no clinically approved drugs now that can effectively target metastatic lesions, which is why more than 90 percent of human cancer-related deaths come from spread of the disease from a primary tumor."
"The results of this study are a critical step in deconstructing the process of metastases -- which is critical to curing our patients," says co-author Dr. Linda T. Vahdat, professor of medicine, chief of the Solid Tumor Service and director of the Breast Cancer Research Program at Weill Cornell. "As a direct result of this study, we are working on ways to interrupt the process by which tumors co-opt the infrastructure in our bodies to grow and spread."
This important study starts to unravel the mechanistic basis of cancer metastases, not only in breast cancer but possibly in other types of cancer, says Dr. Nasser Altorki, the David B. Skinner Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and director of the division of thoracic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. "The need for a prepared and receptive soil may be required for cancer cell seeding regardless of the primary cancer's site of origin."
The Seed and the Soil Cancer researchers have believed that for a cancer to spread, its "seed" must find the right "soil" in a distant organ in order to thrive. And they have hypothesized that this seed is formed through a process known as epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), in which cancer cells lose their sticky grip to other cells in a primary tumor and become more mobile, able to travel through the blood to a distant organ.
But what happens next is conjecture. Scientists have speculated that the cells undergo a reverse process, called mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET), in which the cancer seeds morph back into epithelial cells that can make contact with tissue and integrate in the new organ. Little is known about MET compared to EMT.
In this study, Dr. Mittal, along with his colleagues at Weill Cornell, studied mouse models of spontaneous breast cancer development. They first discovered that primary breast tumors send a signal that forces bone-marrow-derived hematopoietic cells to move into the lungs of the mice. "This appears to be the soil the cancer seeds need," says Dr. Mittal. The next question was obvious: What is it about the soil that helps the seed?
The team found that a subtype of these bone marrow cells expressed versican, which allowed the cancer cells, once they traveled to the lungs, to morph back into epithelial cells. "The primary tumor sets up the lung microenvironment to promote metastasis," he says. In their next experiment, the researchers blocked versican production by injecting small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) in the bone marrow that silenced the versican gene, which prevented MET and blocked tumor outgrowth in the lung.
Human Tumors Express Versican Next, they investigated human breast metastases to the lung, utilizing lung samples obtained from breast cancer patients contributed by researchers at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University. "We found versican was highly expressed in those lung tumors, which matched what we found in our mice," Dr. Mittal says. "This all made sense to us, because versican has been linked to cancer progression, although no one knew why.
"This is the first study demonstrating the significance of MET in the formation of macrometastases in distant organs," Dr. Mittal says. "Given the findings, we now have a potential strategy to stop cancer spread before it starts, or to shut it down if it has already occurred."
The study was funded by support from the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Laboratory, the Robert I. Goldman Foundation and National Cancer Institute support of the Cornell Center on the Microenvironment and Metastasis.

Dating and relationships are complicated for just about everyone. A brain injury can add one more level of complexity. Entering into a new relationship or holding onto a previous relationship after a brain?injury can be a complicated path to navigate. All brain injuries are unique, as are all relationships. ?This means that starting, maintaining and ending romantic relationships will be different for everyone. People often feel overwhelmed when trying to reenter into this area of their lives.
When looking to find love with another person, it is important to start by figuring out what you want from the relationship. Some people might be looking to go on dates without a lot of commitment. Other people are hoping to settle down with someone soon.
Another important thing to remember is that relationships may be different in a number of ways after a brain injury. Depending on the injury, communication styles, emotional needs and physical considerations can alter the way a person dates and maintains a relationship, but this doesn?t mean relationships aren?t possible. Just like knowing what you want in a relationship, it is important to think about how your needs might have changed since the injury. Asking for input, advice and observations from trusted people in your life about ways to adapt and adjust may also help you to figure this part out. Understanding this aspect may not happen immediately; often people need to adjust to life post-ABI before reexamining dating and relationship needs.
One of the hardest things can be finding a date. People meet their partners in a number of ways. Some people meet through friends. Some people bump into a fantastic person in a store, at a concert, in a restaurant or on the subway. Other people try online dating. These methods aren?t for everyone, so it important to to know what you feel comfortable trying.
It?s also key to be safe when entering into new relationships. Meeting new people in public places, not giving out personal information or loaning money, and feeling comfortable to say no if you feel uncomfortable, is essential when dating.
For some, finding a new relationship isn?t the issue. Many ABI survivors were in relationships at the time of their injury. However, an injury can mean major changes to the relationship, for both the survivor and the partner. Both people will have to adjust to the changes after a brain injury, which can be a stressful period. ?Maintaining a relationship is often dependant on communication. Being able to talk with your partner about your feelings, needs and wants while listening to your partner?s feelings, needs and wants is an essential part of being in a relationship. Part of communicating well with your partner may involve conversations about your injury. How to tell the person about your injury and talking about how your injury impacts the relationship can be difficult talks to start, but starting slow, providing small amounts of information at a time and planning ahead about when, where and how you want to talk to your partner can help to reduce anxiety.
Being sexually intimate is another area to figure out. For some brain injury survivors, sexual needs, functions and abilities change. This can be a major life change for people, and a major consideration when re-entering the dating world. For those in relationships before injury, both partners may have to work together to renegotiate the sexual aspects they share. Communication is important. Talking to your partner is key.

As a medical doctor, I'm concerned about many aspects of the changes taking place in heath care.
But I'm also excited, because we have the opportunity to make health care a lot better. It's a chance to change to a system of keeping individuals healthy, rather than performing procedures for payment. We can improve individuals' health by creating a smarter health care system that uses comprehensive information technology.
Things need to improve. U.S. health care spending has risen sharply, adding up to nearly $2.6 trillion in 2010, which is 10 times more than we spent in1980 and more than 50% higher than any other country. The costs threaten to make the U.S. uncompetitive.
And all that spending isn't buying great results. The Commonwealth Fund's third national health care scorecard last year found that the U.S. ranks last out of 16 developed countries when it comes to deaths that could have been prevented by effective medical care.
One reason is that the U.S. is behind in information technology systems for health care, according to the Commonwealth Fund's research. Even though the U.S. is the world's leader in computer systems and software, our huge health care system lacks sophisticated electronic systems.

Rape is a painful topic; a violent act. A 4-letter word that sounds evil. Perpetrators uniformly deny it and victims typically don't discuss it. You'd almost think it never happens. In reality, it happens a lot (see below).
Prior to 1927 there were no laws on the books about rape, and no updated laws existed until January 5, 2011. Women and men both need to know that the U.S. Attorney General recently announced a revised definition of rape so that it can be more accurately reported and prosecuted. As a woman's health expert who spent nearly 20 years at Harvard, it saddens me to say how many women I've cared for who have been raped. I hope it never happens to you or your loved ones; but if it does, now you can prosecute offenders and you're more likely to get justice.
Here's how the new law differs from the old one. In 1927, "Forcible rape" had been defined by the UCR SRS (Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Summary Reporting System (SRS) the "national report card") as "the carnal knowledge of a female, forcibly and against her will." That means a man forces vaginal sex with a woman. It left a lot to be determined; required an immediate visit to the doctor to look for sperm in the woman's vagina as well as any signs of trauma. There was no law for a woman raping a man or a man raping a child. During my on call training, many nights I was asked to examine women for alleged rape, and the details that I carefully wrote in the hospital records had a great impact on whether or not an alleged rapist was convicted.
Here's how the new law describes rape: "The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."
So one person forcing an object (animate or inanimate) into another person is rape.
Susan B. Carbon, Director of the Office on Violence Against Women, states, "For the first time ever, the new definition includes any gender of victim and perpetrator, not just women being raped by men. It also recognizes that rape with an object can be as traumatic as penile/vaginal rape. This definition also includes instances in which the victim is unable to give consent because of temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity."
How common is it? According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) 1 in 6 women report that they have either been raped or an attempt has been made to rape them in their lifetime. The first time for 60% of these women was before age 18. Tell your daughters. The February 2012 issue of the medical journal Obstetrics & Gynecology (2012;119:412-7) estimates that more than 1 in 3 women (36%) in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner at some point during their lives.
What is it? Sexual violence is any sexual activity for which you do not freely give consent. That includes both sex against your will and sex that happens when you cannot freely give your consent. If you have been drinking and pass out, and wake up to suddenly find a man having sex with you, it is rape. If a man has sex with a woman who is under the influence, it is rape. Think of it like this, if you are under the influence, you cannot sign a consent form for a medical procedure, and you cannot give consent for a sexual act, either. Tell your sons; getting a girl drunk or high to have sex with her may now land him in jail or at least in court.
Rape is more than unwanted sex. It's an act of violence and it's a crime.
Who commits it? Unfortunately, all kinds of people; a current or former intimate partner; a family member, friend, or acquaintance; a person in a position of power or trust, or a stranger. According to the CDC, in a nationally representative survey that looked at the first rape experience of female victims, perpetrators were reported to be intimate partners (30.4%), family members (23.7%), and acquaintances (20%). This means that the victims knew over 74% of the perpetrators. Remind yourself; keep your antennae up.
What are the risks? I divide the risks into short-term: getting pregnant (for women), acquiring a sexually transmitted disease, or being injured; and long-term risks that can affect your physical or emotional health:
? Chronic pain
? Headaches
? Fear and anxiety
? Problems trusting others
? Anger and stress
? Eating disorders
? Depression
? Suicidal thoughts
What can I do to prevent it?
? Avoid using excessive amounts of alcohol and drugs. It interferes with clear thinking.
? Be aware of your surroundings. Be cautious and alert.
? Try to walk in groups rather than alone, especially at night.
? Take a self-defense class.
? Lock all doors to your car and residence at all times.
? Believe in your right to set limits that match your sexual desires and limits.
? State your limits clearly and loudly and say "NO" if necessary.
? Yell "Fire" or carry a whistle and blow it. It attracts people's attention.
? If the rapist is unarmed, fight back, shout "NO" and run away as soon as possible.
? If the rapist is armed, try to talk him out of continuing the assault or resist passively by pretending to faint, vomit or urinate
What do I do in case of rape?
? Go to a safe place and call a friend or family member to be with you.
? Take some slow deep breaths and realize that what happened is wrong, it's not your fault and that you have value.
? Call the police; rape is a crime.
? Do not bathe, douche or change clothes.
? If you choose not to contact the police, go to a hospital emergency department to be checked. You are not required to report to police in order to get medical care.
? Write down as much as you can remember about what happened and the person who did it while it is most fresh in your mind.
? Contact a rape treatment center. A counselor there can be of great help.
